Do you like us?

Well, do you?

If you do, maybe we should be friends. The fabulous Pat recently created a bodacious Facebook page for dVider. And now, dVider is making tons of excellent friends! So, why should you Fan our Facebook page? Here are my top ten reasons (other people may have other reasons and I would encourage you to leave a comment with these reasons!)

Countup or countdown? I like it Letterman style, so we'll count down.

10. 10% off. It's true. Just Fan us on Facebook and we'll send you a code to save 10% on your next dVider purchase!

9. Don't know where to stick your sticker? Check the Installation of the Week photo album for ideas.

8. You can tell us what you're up to, what you think we should make, and perhaps, what we should listen to! Write on our wall and tell us what's up.

7. Because I said so. (small cartoon below simply for kicks)

6. Follow links to random stuff I find when I'm pretending to work at my desk. Click here for an example.

5. Did you put your sticker somewhere cool? Are you just really proud that you put it up all by yourself? Add an image of your installed sticker in our Fan Photos section!

4. You're cool. We're cool. Cool people need to stick together. Haha, no pun intended! Really!

3. Check out our Favorite pages and see what's good.

2. Receive once in awhile updates about new stickers, promotions, and more!

1. You can totally stalk all of us. We're all on there. Just kidding. Don't stalk us, but I mean, I guess you can do what you want, that's why they call it Stalkerbook, er, Facebook

I choo choo choose you!

If you remember this Simpsons episode where Lisa gets the valentine from Ralph, then you caught on to my title. If not, it would be cuter with a little train visual . . .

The reason for the title is recently we've been receiving a lot of inquiries from folks wondering how to choose a sticker! I agree it can be difficult to decide. So today I've elected to share my method with you.

In the morning, I never know what to wear (except on the odd occassion that I have some sort of genius outfit idea before I go to sleep), so I choose one item. Today, it was this old white thermal that is magically still a bit white.

I had ideas. I could go basic with jeans, 90s grunge with this plaid dress and black dress (serious layering action), or layer with this shift dress and my Doc Martens. . .but I was kinda feeling more in a moccassin mood . . . ah, so many ideas. Ok, but back to the thermal. I was feeling cold, but I wanted to ride my bike so I opted to go basic with jeans. Start with one thing, and the rest will follow.

By the way, if you need some reliable thermals, I recommend your local thrift store or American Apparel (worth mentioning they have some racy marketing on their site, click on the link at your own risk!) For the dependable jeans, I recommend the Acne Tube Jean. And, for the reliable mocassins, you can't go wrong with Minnetonka. See images of jeans and mocassins to the left.

So, I'm thinking that perhaps all of you out there that can't decide which sticker to choose should first select a trait for your sticker. Perhaps you will pick a color or a category. In the past, I selected a color. I went with the gold. Gold would look best in my creamy colored bedroom. Then I thought of the style I have already established, hmm, Rummage Grunge Kerry? Nature styles seemed like they would suit me best, or possibly a pattern. I checked out the patterns but couldn't quite picture any in my room. Then I tossed with a couple nature ideas. My style is a bit unisex (does that make sense?) So a delicate floral just wouldn't work. Ultimately, the only one that I saw fitting into my room was the branch, Nature 09

I also thought it would look great if I layered an art piece or framed photo over it so that it's still in the background a bit. Needless to say, I think my odd decision making process worked. If it makes any sense to you, I encourage you to try it as well.

Complex Designs. Geometric Friends.

I am one lucky girl.

For my birthday, one of my closest friends, Sharon Kim (who happens to be one of the most crazily talented and creative people I've ever met) gave me a gift that ranks up there as one of the best gifts I have ever received. That's right - move over My Super Sweet Sixteen. Meet my new ribbon sweater vest.

This ribbon sweater vest is extraordinary for a number of reasons. First, it's designed by Complex Geometries  - a Montreal-based label notorious for creating ingeniously subtle, goosebump-arousing, multi-purpose designs of wearable art (read more about them here). They are one of my favorite labels of all time, but how did Sharon know?!! My guess is because she's pretty dang amazing. Second, the sweater came with an incredibly thoughtful, handwritten note from Adam, one of the geniuses behind the label (the other being Clayton, the creative genius and actual designer behind the line). It's been so long since I've received a handwritten note in the mail that I'm actually thinking about having it framed and hung in my room (thanks Adam).

And as if that wasn't enough to make my day, I realized that the vest is like the Optimus Prime of all sweater vests. Oh yes - a Transformatronic masterpiece. You can wear it in not one, not two, but three - yes, THREE - different ways.

Don't believe me? See for yourself below (clockwise from top: draped with sleeve, belted, scarfed):

complex geometries ribbon sweater vest

I know, I know - all this greatness is a lot to swallow in a single garment. If you want to see more, check out complex geometries' online store or, if you're in the city, swing by OAK.

All this talk about smart, multi-purpose design has me thinking...about our stickers, of course (shameless plug time)! Like complex geometries, dVider creates pieces that can be interpreted and used in many different ways. For instance, our removable vinyl stickers can be safely applied to virtually any smooth, flat surface - from painted walls and wooden drawers to glass windows and more. Even better, they can be sliced, arranged, and oriented however you wish. See below for some easy ways to display nature 09 (one of my favorite designs from our nature sticker collection - it's also available as a super-sized MAX sticker):

Inspired? I am. More complex geometries! More stickers by dVider! Thank goodness for my new stash of birthday cash...

Oh, Kristoph.

So, I am still trying to make a habit of the Friday installation bits for you. Fortunately, Kris (sometimes known as Kristoph or Kristopherson for absolutely no good reason other than Kris needed some nicknames), has provided me with a few lovely photos from his apartment way, way, way down on the L train. So today, I have one for you.

DSC00011.jpg

It's definitely got a masculine touch. Notice Figure 01 (in red) gracing over Nature 01 (in black).  A simple, subtle touch for the lightswitch. I would probably just use a mini sticker, but I appreciate Kris's bold take on design and color. Perfect for your living room, bathroom, kitchen, bedroom, library, den, or guest room!

In all seriousness, Kris needs an outlet. He needs a place to be a man. I mean he's with us ladies all day. So, then why exaclty a lady on the wall. . . Oh, Kristoph.

dVictory! dArt!

Hey kids. Pat here. I'm new to the dVider blog, but otherwise a true dVeteran at heart. In case you're wondering, I handle most of the dVider website. But today, we're going to talk about some good old-fashioned art.

This Friday, I got the chance to visit some pretty crazy exhibits around the city. The first one was by the legendary Banksy (got the tip and tour from photographer/day-time boss, JPK). Location? Why, the side of a building on the corner of Howard and Broadway, of course. Check it out here (while it's still mostly pre-tagged):

The second stop was "The Outsiders" temporary NY Exhibition - brought to us by the The Lazarides folks from London. I have no idea how long this show will be around - I've heard anywhere from 2 weeks to 1 month. Point is, just stop being lazy and check them out sooner rather than later. But in case you've already missed them, here's a peak of one of my favorite pieces by the master of seamlessly-wheatpasted, oversized photography, J.R.:

My final and favorite stop was the opening for Damon Johnson's exhibit "Thanks for Asking," which is showing for one month at the Half Gallery. This event came with a whole host of fun facts. #1: The exhibit is curated by James Frey, best-selling author of A Million Little Pieces.

#2: Although nearly impossible to gauge from Damon's humble demeanor, the opening boasted a star-studded guest-list, with visitors (and new Damon Johnson collectors) spanning from Michael Ovitz and Cynthia Rowley to Carlo McCormick and Half Gallery owners, Bill Powers and James Frey - just to name a few.

Damon Johnson exibit at Half Gallery

And, finally, #3: Damon is good friends with our very own featured Guest Artist, Alexander Dawson. And here they are together - in some stealth-black ninja attire. Hmmm...why are we not surprised?

Fun facts aside, the work itself was pretty dang impressive. Damon has quite a lot to say. And he'll say it right to your face. But hey - don't listen to me, check it out for yourself.

Oh, and one last thing - all these photos were taken with nothing more than my new, 2.4x4.5" bundle of iPhone goodness. Shazaaam. Where the heck did I find this peculiar expression? It must've been from Kerry...

Stick it!

People whom aren't so familiar with dVider don't always get it right away. I've often been asked if I make bumper stickers or if we have any scratch n' sniff (we don't, but i hear there's a wallpaper company out there that does!) I know I've encountered a product of the 80's if they ask me if we do stickers like the ones by Lisa Frank that they collected as a kid. For all of these folks, its not until they see one of our stickers installed in a space that they really start to get it. Once they see it, the first reaction is usually, "oh, this would be awesome on my . . ." and from there I've heard motorcycle, refrigerator, toilet, laptop, desk, apt. door, and so many more ideas it's obscene.

My very first installation idea was actually for gun sticker. I put it in my closet behind my clothes as a super subtle touch. I also wanted to make sure they were removable (they are, I just have trust issues I guess). Anways, skipping ahead, when our first guest artist, wallpaper designer Jill Malek, showed us her designs, well, one just jumped at me as my new headboard.

My personal sense of style is, hmm, I really don't know how to describe it. Let's just say my room is full of beautiful antiques and stuff I found on the sidewalk. Now to think of it, my wardrobe it pretty comparable. . .anyways, the headboard! It was genius, and in gold the design looked as if I had painted it right on the wall. In fact, my neighbor just realized it wasn't painted on!

Now for the big finish! The photo! See me and my lovely boyfriend enjoying a cup of tea in bed with the sticker in the background. OH, I can't lie. Actually, my roommate/specialfriend/photographer/macaroni and cheese genius, Gavin Thomas, had a little IMG_3108editWEB.jpgphoto shoot in my room one day and scored some great photos . . . of other people hanging out on my bed, drinking out of my teapot, perusing my books and the general ambience of Kerry's room. Anways, see the sticker! I totally love it, but I'm still working on getting prop styling cred on the photo. Just kidding, Gavin.

The actual finish! Coming soon! A blog less about me and more about everyone at dVider! Also, more organization! From here on out, expect a sticker installation idea every Friday! Kathryn's taking home a Nature 13 today, so I'll be sure to show you where she sticks it as soon as a photo presents itself! Have a great weekend and let me know where you're sticking your stickers by sending an image to kerry@dVider.com!

The Band.

Oh man. I just wrote this whole blog and then, whoosh! In one small click, I lost it. That'll teach me to sleep around, I mean click around. I learned not to sleep around back when I was in college. . . well, that's another story for quite possibly a different day. What if children are readying this?

Don't laugh. I wasn't funny.

So, alright, the reason for the posting. The band, man. After one too many times of talking about starting a band and a million signs telling us to start one, Caroline and I will be holding our first practice with the likes of Ben on Friday. We knew it was time because 1. Someone just ordered Alexander's guitar sticker (there will be a guitar in the band) 2.  I was just introduced to this magazine Paste which talks crazy about music (the band will play music, maybe a little like Animal Collective done really poorly?) 3. with the exception of Ben, my roommates will be out of town opening up my apt. as a practice space (we need a space, man) 4. I just ate a rice and lentils and I think musicians, at least the ones that live in my 'hood must live on this stuff 'cause they're all built like rails 5. We're like, really talented, I mean, well, we have potential to be really good. Check me out to your left, I look like a natural, though I'm far from a natural at PhotoShop.

So, if its not about the money and its not about the fame, what's it about? It's about sending subliminal messages to buy stickers on each and every CD. Oh, come on. We wouldn't do that. Or would we. . .

Man, I was going to show you this awesome photo.

Since the concept of a dVider blog was born, I've been waiting for the moment to share my favorite sticker installation. For some reason, all week I planned today to be the day. The installation of my tiny little spider sticker on the hardwood floor near the end of my bed would be on display for the world to see! Unfortunately for all of you, I did not e-mail this photo to myself or even take the photo. I was distracted last night by a little band known as Sigur Ros (see album cover left).

I've been a fan of them for years, but never knew much about them. Upon being offered a ticket to the sold out show, I jumped on it, abandoning my Thursday night yoga. The concert was way uptown and absolutely amazing. If you aren't familiar, here are three fun facts about Sigur Ros that might give you a feel for them. Rather, here are three two in one fun facts (two facts per number, get it?): 1. They're Icelandic and they sing in Icelandic. 2. They play a guitar with a bow and from our seats, it looked like there was a bass guitar being played with a notched drumstick! 3. They made a movie about their homeland called 'Heima' that I've yet to see. Definitely at least listen to a song or two on their myspace page which you can link to here.

Moral of the story: Sometimes Kerry's outright inability to wake up early so she can capture some photos for the blog results in you learning about amazing music from distant lands

a really nice day.

nyc family justice center.

dVider at nyc family justice center

The dVider team was honored when we were asked to donate our stickers for an installation at the nyc family justice center, an AMAZING organization which works to reduce the barriers faced by victims of domestic violence who are seeking help. The room we designed, sponsored by the joe torre safe at home foundation, was lovingly named 'margaret's place' after joe's mother margaret, herself a victim of abuse. So, last week, kerry and I packed up some stickers, hopped on the good ol' 'F' train, and headed up to queens!

We combined zany zebras, soaring airplanes, high flying kites and lush jungle vines to create an environment we hope the kids will really enjoy.

Fun fact: that's us in the reflection, being happy.

Thank you, nyc family justice center, for a day we'll never forget. Keep up the good work!

the dog days of summer.

how awesome are dogs?

So awesome. And since they are, you should get yourself right on over to freekibble.com. Just answer the daily trivia question, and the site does exactly as it says - giving free kibble to dogs in shelters. And the best part is you don't even have to get the question right! Which is great for me! And don't forget about the kitties at freekibblekat.com!

surfin' safari.

summer fashion 08'.

The dVider team consists of an awful lot of fashiony girls and guys. And this summer, we're all about the animal prints, or 'safari chic' if you will. My ultra hip mom was sweet enough to buy me a zebra print skirt this weekend (thanks mom!), and I'm hooked. Or, more fittingly, clawed (ha).

proenza schouler, derek lam, diane von furstenberg, christian dior and lamb are all doing an amazing job of translating this trend onto something new. I'm quite impressed. And if your ultra-fashiony walls feel like getting in on the trend as well...

don't go chasin' waterfalls...

art in motion.

Our studio, located in the DUMBO section of brooklyn, just so happens to overlook the east river, offering us an amazing view of both the manhattan bridge and the brooklyn bridge. We had noticed some scaffolding action unfolding under the brooklyn bridge for awhile now, and then we realized: we were witnessing the building of one of the waterfalls! A prime view out our very own window! Artist olafur eliasson has created four waterfalls in new york city's east river for the summer. Think liquid summertime christo and jeanne-claude gates style. The 90 to 120 foot waterfalls will flow until late summer, and the soothing and rythmic swells are sure to keep me, and the rest of new york, mesmerized. Please come visit our lovely city and see for yourself.

summer lovin.

summer. is. here.

It's official! The dVider team is decked out in flip flops, sippin' on lemonade, and rockin' the short shorts. Well, not Kerry, she's still really into her fancy highwaisted jeans, but I guess she's already cool enough. Well, all of this laid back summer goodness got us thinking about our favorite childhood memories. The number one:

summer lovin.

Ahhhhh sprinklers. The days when any friend with a slip n' slide was a friend indeed, and if they had crocodile mile (remember!).... well, instant best friend status. Then we realized just how many of our stickers are filled with the same good vibes. Here are our faves....
